Animal Rights Initiative began in 2017 by a group of Seattle based volunteers hungry for change and determined to get it. We have indefatigably organized hundreds of educational events across the United States, including the 100-Day-Stand against Starbucks' unfair price gouging at their headquarters in Seattle, WA, and the popular "Fur-Free-Friday" events weekly in Honolulu, HI. Beginning in 2019, we expanded our focus to include legislative actions to prevent cruelty to animals.

"We started this organization because we realized people were being indoctrinated into lifestyles unaware of their complicity in violence towards animals faster than we could educate against. We saw a lot of holes in the (anti-animal cruelty) movement, and we wanted to build something more inclusive, whole, and long term. Every single person is on their own path of enlightenment and kindness towards themselves and all beings. We must reach people where they're at, and we can't rely on consumers to reject cruelty over convenience. We need to stop the producers from producing products of cruelty. We're at war for these animals against industry after industry that view them as nothing but resources for human consumption. We must unlearn human supremacy as fast as possible in order to have a thriving life on Earth for all beings" - Amanda Fox.

We don't believe it is enough to ask businesses and individuals to live a cruelty-free lifestyle. The burden of research proves too hard to bear in many cases, and even those that want to avoid animal products simply do not have the resources or self-confidence to navigate label-reading and often times, the labels are misleading and greenwashed to trick mindful consumers. Think of the label "dolphin-safe" that manipulates consumers into killing tuna fish. Companies have their own bottom line in mind, not the welfare of all beings, and certainly not the future of humanity. It is widely known that animal agriculture is the leading cause of emissions on our planet. We must switch to plant-based systems and industries not only for the sake of animal cruelty, but for the longevity and survival of all humanity.

We believe that animal liberation from human exploitment is interconnected with the liberation of all oppressed beings. It is integral to lift everyone up in our quest for equality, social justice, and freedom for all. Not only are BiPOC more likely to experience living in a food desert, but they are also more likely to have allergies to animal products, and therefore have to pay more for access to food that doesn't make them sick. Historically, cultures that domesticate animals shortly after turn to human trafficking as well. 49.6 million people live in modern slavery – in forced labour and forced marriage. Roughly a quarter of all victims of modern slavery are children. The belief that any of us are of more importance than others has allowed us to step out of the circle of life, and justify unimaginable cruelties to humans and animals alike.

“If we don’t do this important work and reject the false narrative that has caused us to behave so violently without moral regard, then we will continue spiraling down this path of destruction" - Wendy Linton. The obvious answer for the future is to be plant-based. We need to focus on replenishing the Earth and every living being.
